The Alloy Origins full design and sturdy, portable frame proved to be just what I needed for my work-from-home setup.
HyperX Alloy Origins is a full-sized keyboard with a numeric keypad, which is great for gamers who need to access a wide range of keys during gameplay. The sleek and solid design allows users to maximize their desktop space for other peripherals.
It features custom mechanical HyperX key switches designed for performance and durability with a shorter actuation point and a lifespan of 80 million clicks.
The RGB backlit keys provide brighter light. With a full aircraft-grade aluminum frame, this keyboard is forged to withstand the most aggressive gamer behavior. The three adjustable feet on the bottom allow the user to choose the perfect angle for comfort.

UNBOXING : HyperX Alloy Origins
Inside the box, we find the Alloy Origins, which is wrapped in clear plastic to keep out dust and prevent the cardboard from rubbing against the keycaps. The cable or literature is located behind and below the keyboard.
Along with the braided USB Type-A to USB Type C cable, which is tied in a pair of rubber bands, we also get instructions and another insert. The guide will take you through the layout, explain where to get the software, show you the feet, and move on to the installation process.
The dual-layer functionality is described in detail and everything is repeated in multiple languages. As for the supplemental attachment, a page shows us that HyperX is ready to help you troubleshoot potential issues and where to get help.
The other side is white and repeated in sixteen languages, which can be found on the pictured page.

BUILD QUALITY: HyperX Alloy Origins
The first thing you’ll notice about the HyperX Alloy Origins Mechanical USB Gaming Keyboard is its solid build quality. This keyboard has a great build quality. It has a full aluminum body with a soft finish and the whole keyboard feels solid and sturdy with no signs of flex.
Keycaps
The keycaps are made of durable and high-quality ABS plastic and have a nice matte finish that resists fingerprints and smudging. The keycaps are also double-shot injected, so you should have no problems with the key labels fading or chipping or wear down over time.
Ergonomics
This keyboard has good ergonomics. It has two tilt positions, but no wrist rest. The stands feel solid and shouldn’t collapse when you push the keyboard forward.
Backlight
This keyboard has full stunning RGB backlighting and each key can be customized with HyperX’s INGENUITY software to suit your own personal preferences.
The backlight is brighter than other RGB backlit keyboards, resulting in a slight color gradient.
DESIGN : HyperX Alloy Origins
Measuring 44.2 x 13.2 x 3.8 Centimeters and weighing 2.43 pounds (1100g), the Alloy Origins is fairly compact for a full-sized mechanical keyboard. And a detachable braided USB-C cable (that’s nearly six feet long) makes the keyboard more travel-friendly.
This is plenty of length to reach from your PC to your desk, and it’s also much more durable than a standard plastic or rubber cable.The good thing about the detachable braided cable is that if it ever becomes damaged, you’ll not have to replace the entire keyboard.
The slim aluminum housing looks and feels solid, while giving the visible switches and buttons a nice reflective surface, resulting in bright, attractive lighting effects.
Overall, this is one of the nicest mechanical keyboards I’ve used lately. It’s definitely nicer (and feels better quality) than the more expensive Logitech G Pro X with a switch toggle. The only features I miss when using the Alloy Origins are some sort of volume wheel.
But there’s not enough room on the keyboard frame for more than one or two extra keys anyway, and HyperX has at least built-in media controls (as well as basic lighting controls and a game mode switch) in the feature set.
A strip above the Numpad on the right looks like a small monochrome screen (similar to the SteelSeries Apex Pro) but is only used as an indicator of Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Game Mode.
There are also a few things to consider on the underside of the keyboard. First, the lower shell is a piece of aluminum with curved edges that, like the top, feels cool to the touch, making the keyboard feel very high quality and solid.
Second, the feet on the back of the Alloy Origins fold to two different heights, allowing you to adjust the angle to three different positions (the third with the feet folded down) whichever feels right to you – I loved typing and play with your feet at their maximum height.
TYPING EXPERIENCE : HyperX Alloy Origins
This keyboard comes with your choice of HyperX branded red linear switches, Aqua Tactile, or Blue Clicky switches.
The HyperX Tactile switches for my fingers feel about the same as the Cherry MX Brown in the Corsair keyboard I use to play games at home. According to HyperX, the HyperX Aqua switches have the same 45g actuation force as Cherry MX Red.
But HyperX has reduced both actuation travel (1.88mm) and overall stroke (3.8mm) by 0.2mm. Cherry MX Brown have a nominal spacing of 2mm or 4mm.
Honestly, I didn’t really notice the 0.2mm difference when typing or gaming. And neither will you unless you’re legitimately an elite player. Even if a shorter actuation gives you an advantage, Cherry’s MX Silver switches have a significantly shorter actuation point of 1.2mm.
So if you think a shorter keystroke will help you in competitive gaming, there are better keyboard models out there.
Since I’m fairly familiar with tactile switches and HyperX hasn’t done anything crazy with the layout, the Alloy Origins felt right at home — at least until I reached out with one hand to media controls that weren’t there.
Aqua switches aren’t the best for typing, but they didn’t bother me too much when I wrote this review. In any case, I’ve noticed fewer repetitive keystrokes when typing with this keyboard than usual when typing with the Cherry MX Brown switches on my Corsair keyboard.
Keystrokes
The HyperX Alloy Origins uses tactile proprietary switches. These switches have a short forward stroke, require very little force to operate, and provide no tactile feedback.
This keyboard is also available with HyperX Red and HyperX Blue switches, which are linear and clickable respectively.
Typing Quality
The typing experience is excellent. The keys are firm and well-spaced, which is good for ty ping accuracy, but the space bar rattles a bit. Although the keycaps are made of ABS plastic, they do not feel cheap and are easy to type.
The linear switches provide light and responsive typing experience and should not cause fatigue even during long gaming sessions.
Latency
The latency of the HyperX Alloy Origins gaming keyboard is exceptionally low, resulting in a responsive gaming experience.
Typing sounds
Speaking of the HyperX Alloy Origins gaming keyboard’s typing noise, the typing noise is quiet and shouldn’t bother you even in a quiet office environment.
SOFTWARE AND OPERATING SYSTEM : HyperX Alloy Origins
As mentioned above, basic lighting controls can be handled via keyboard shortcuts. But if you really want to customize the lighting of individual keys, add effects, create macros, and save profiles (up to three) to the keyboard’s internal memory, you’ll need to install HyperX’s dubiously named NGenuity software.
Despite its name, NGenuity works ԛuite well and is ԛuite attractive. You can choose from 10 different lighting effects, adjust speed and direction and decide whether the entire keyboard or individual keys are illuminated. Also, the reassignment of keys or the recording and assignment of macros is done here.
Overall, I like the look of the software, hate the name, and wish parts of it were more intuitive. For example, there are about 30 presets in the Library tab, most of which are game-based.
But every time I clicked on one, the lights would blink for a second, then immediately revert to the previously selected light effect – I couldn’t glue them on easily.
Programming Software
The HyperX Alloy Origins has excellent software support. It can be customized with NGENUITY software, which can only be downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Store.
While this greatly limits compatibility with other operating systems, it makes it easier to use the cloud sync feature, as your Microsoft account imports your settings rather than having to create a separate account with HyperX.
With this software, you can adjust the backlight, program macros, and save profiles in addition to the three that you can save in the built-in memory of the keyboard.
Keyboard Compatibility
This keyboard has decent compatibility. Since the NGENUITY software is only available on Windows, Linux and macOS users cannot customize the keyboard.
All buttons work correctly on Linux, but Scroll Lock and Pause/Break do not work on macOS.
